Wonder Moms: Automation Running the World!

Although a few weeks away, for me Labor Day weekend in the United States has always marked the inception of the most beautiful season 'Fall'. One of our favorite things to do every year on this weekend is to spend time at our local carnival called ‘The Last Fling’. It has all the fun ingredients - from exciting rides to good food, family games to an energetic music band. As I look around, my heart fills with happiness to see all the joyous faces (some kids are crying and that’s OK!).The one central theme I see across families is how moms are literally on auto-mode, making things happen for everyone and that the synergies between moms and automation are unmissable. Automation is to industries as moms are to families and communities.

In general terms, automation is the application of technology, programs, robotics or processes to achieve outcomes with minimal human input. Automation has countless applications, including: enterprise applications such as business process automation (BPA), IT process automation, robotics for industrial automation (automotive manufacturing), and consumer applications (home automation). Automation software and technologies are used in a wide array of industries, from finance to healthcare, utilities to defense, and practically everywhere in between.

There are numerous benefits of automation including, increased productivity, cost reduction, reduced errors, increased efficiency, improved compliance, improved customer service, increased scalability and accuracy. If we think of it, ‘wonder moms’ pretty much accomplish these goals and more in everyday lives. Let’s take a deeper dive on some of these benefits with respect to mom quotient:

  • Increased productivity - Employees across organizations can focus on more important tasks when automation takes over repetitive tasks. This is very similar to how moms flawlessly execute repetitive but critical tasks on a daily basis. Whether it’s a personal or a professional setup, in my experience moms bring an innate quality of making lives easier for people around them, helping them focus on things that are foundational to their growth.

  • Cost reduction - Automation can reduce manual work overhead costs, improve cash flow, and avoid compliance fees and fines. It is no exaggeration to state that moms make great finance managers (if they chose to!). From monthly finances to outing budgets, yearly cash flow management to compliance (discipline) adherence, they have us covered.

  • Reduced errors - Automation can reduce the number of errors made by employees, which can cost businesses money and negatively impact customer experience. Whenever things go haywire many of us think of our moms not only because they can quickly fix things but also offer great advice at the onset for reduced errors - sounds like automation to me.

  • Scalability - Automation can maintain a smooth workflow at all times, allowing companies to scale quickly and efficiently. Now, have we ever wondered about the role of moms that enable us to do more and more every year i.e. more family activities, new sports for kids, vacations etc.? This could potentially be attributed to the smooth workflows and operations established by moms across initiatives enabling scalability and growth for all.

I am not saying that dads don’t play a role in making things happen, all I am suggesting is that automation might have taken a lesson or two from moms around the world!
